Hawk Spirit's Animal Energy of the Week: The Hippopotamus (Womanhood)

I remember going to the aquarium several years ago just to see the hippopotamus. It was such a fun sight to see the buoyant ancient beast swim in its pool. I recall hoping that the hairless animal would greet me at the window. It did not. Well, you can't always get what you want.
In ancient Egypt, the Hippopotamus was a highly revered goddess by the name of Taweret. Taweret governed fertility and womanhood. Her statue was found in every Egyptian household for several centuries before and after Christ. I choose the hippo this week because I am embracing my womanhood.
I always loved being a woman. God blessed me with so many beautiful aspects of womanhood that love is the only emotion I could express. However, as a woman there were specific worlds I never wanted to venture in. One of them was motherhood.
I know it's weird. As a woman, wanting to be a mother should be a given. It just wasn't for me and in many ways I'm sad about that. I won't discuss why I choose not to be a mother. I'll just say I've had more eclipses then sunny days in my life. That kind of energy is just not suitable for a kid. I have not regrets with this decision. Sometimes these things just aren't meant to be.
Unfortunately though, there is always a dark side to a correct decision. Health issues that can arise because the female anatomy never took a break to bare a child. Not to mention, the other great ailments that come with aging and the big M. This is the double whammy of living the eternal bachelorette life. If you haven't guessed it, I went to the doctor this week.
Nevertheless, I don't shy myself away from whatever comes my way. I am a very strong woman on all levels. Like the hippopotamus, I use my large tusks to annihilate the challenges. I never stay in the same space of thought for too long. If I did, a dark depression would take over my life. Been there too many times to continue the trend. So age and illness better get ready if they want a piece of me.
I didn't mean to make this blog about me. This note is really a celebration of all women. Even ones that can snap a spine in two. The hippo wants me to tell you to love yourselves, take care of your reproductive health, and make sure that we treat each other with reverence. As women, we have to do better with our sister relationships. And by sister I mean all women, not just family.
Questions:
1. Have you been to the doctor lately? Please go if you haven't.
2. Do you love being a woman? If you don't, why?
3. Has there ever been anyone in your life who demeaned your womanhood? If
yes, how did you handle it?
4. What was the most powerful experience you ever had as a woman?
5. Who is your female hero and why? It can be anyone even a superhero?
6. Do you treasure the women around you?
********
In the above questions, I asked about an empowering moment. I'd like to share one with you. When I was six years-old I had a baby-sitter who had a son. This little boy liked to hit me all the time. I don't know if he got that from his dad but this kid was a punk. So one day we were on a school trip. I'm talking to a friend and the kid comes and hits me. I go into my bag, grab my ruler and slap the @*&@ out of him. You see I planned the night before that I would clock him if he hit me again. From what I remember he went crying to mommy. He never hit me again. Ever.
That's the day I knew that no one would ever abuse of me without a fight. The ruler became the instrument of courage in my life. Do you have an instrument of courage? If you do put blessing on it always. If you don't find one. The hippo has five. Four very powerful tusks and 5,000 pounds of brute strength. Wow! No wonder she's on the top ten of the most dangerous animals in the planet. She'll destroy you with one bite.
Remember to look to the Hawk for guidance on all things. Much love to you and may God bless you always. Stay safe out there. Be careful in crowded areas.
